Ghosts in a Row

A Spooky Word Game

Ghosts in a Row is a fun and interactive word game where participants arrange words from a spooky sentence to create a winning row. Perfect for Halloween parties, this game combines wordplay with a classic bingo-style challenge, making it a hit for all ages.

Materials Needed:

  • 1 Ghosts-in-a-Row game tray per participant: Download template
  • 1 pencil per participant
  • Pre-prepared sentences, each containing exactly 9 words
  • A bowl to hold the cut-out words from the sentences
  • A board to display the sentence for all to see

How to Play:

Prepare the sentences:

  • Write a few spooky-themed sentences with exactly nine words, such as ”Do not be afraid of the ghosts on Halloween!” or ”Horrible ghosts try to scare sleeping children at night!”.
  • Cut out each word from the sentences so that each sentence is divided into nine parts. Keep the words from each sentence separate and place the words from one sentence into a bowl.

Game Setup:

  • Give each player a Ghosts-in-a-Row game tray and a pencil.
  • Display the chosen sentence on a board so all participants can see it.
  • Each player should write the words from the sentence in any square on their tray, with each word being used only once.

Gameplay:

  • The game leader pulls a word note from the bowl and reads it aloud.
  • The participants then cross off that word on their tray if they have it.

Winning the game:

  • The first player to cross off three words in a row—vertically, horizontally, or diagonally—wins the game.

Tip: Ghosts in a Row is an entertaining way to combine a Halloween theme with a word game, making it a fun addition to your party activities!
